I should do this.. at least then I could see how different I look between trimming my goatee and letting my hair grow too damn long..

I kinda hoped he could have had a black eye or something during the process to just give it more a sense of time.. I spent too long watching it flipping back and forth checking what he had on the walls behind him or what was on his computer monitor..

I was curious about that, too. It didn't ever appear to get longer and then short again. It was almost like he didn't get a hair cut.

I'm curious what you found negative about it.

I didn't find it made any other statement other than a rather abstract representation of time. But I found the representation to be a bit disarming. And like I said, it made me feel small... finite...

Self referential, self absorbed, self important, obsessive...

I concede self portraits are common in art. I might even find it interesting if he did it for say, fifty years, which would raise obsession to serious insanity (which I have a certain fondness for). Or maybe he could have changed his expression or moved his mouth in small calculated increments to give the impression of speech or changes in mood over time.

I would think that if it was about being self important, he might have chosen exotic or engaging environments to take pictures in. His rather simplistic choice of his closet/desk/a particular corner of his room sorta downplays any apparent sense of self importance on his part. Additionally, I found his rather lax expression gave himself a better chance to portray the changes that time made to his face. Any attempt to smile or alter the expression might mask the effects of time.

The video seems to imply this is a work in progress... I'll be interested to see it in 44 years... although I hope he skips to about every 10 days or so... heh

Talking over time might have truly been facinating. But I'm not sure this particular experiment is worth repeating... so I'm not sure it would be worthwhile for someone to do it with that idea in mind.
