Does anyone else remember when things you ordered from Crutchfield were CHEAP? There isn't a single Auto CD player under $100! The only Tivo they have in there is going for over $400! It used to be the place for quality equipment at reasonable prices.

Who are these people marketing to anyway? Why would they think that anyone who was willing to fork out several thousand dollars for a HDTV would choose to run that TV with the built-in speakers? Why would they carry high wattage car stereos when people who would actually run that kind of wattage are the kind who install their own amps and subwoofers anyway?

These people have lost their damn minds.

Skip the Tivo unit and just throw together a system with a video tuner card.

I've got the Creative Digital VCR card and it works great.

i would love to have something like a tivo, but i'm waiting a few generations.. i think that very soon we will see a device with tivo functionality + music storage and playback, wifi connectivity (to receive jpg, video and mp3 type info from your computer and pipe it through to your tv and stereo) and a cd/dvd player and recorder for under $400..

as evidence, i offer SonicBlue's wifi dvd player.. add a tivo and you're good to go..

i also think that more home theater components should use standardized parts the way tivo does.. it's a very good idea to base it on a standard eide drive since they're ubiquitous and cheap..

Hmmm, I never really thought Crutchfield was cheap, but I do remember being able to afford at least a few things in in their catalog, back during the internet boom.
