So our wedding is done... everyone had a great time... and it's time to head off to our honeymoon. Our flight leaves at 8:30 in the morning from Nashville to Jamaica (even though Wendy still doesn't know where we are going) and we've got reservations at a nice little bed and breakfast in Brentwood. We hope in the little zippy car and head off to our own little adventure.
The bed and breakfast is gorgeous. We have a huge jacuzzi, a nice little suite, and even though we are going to be missing it, we'd get a fantastic spread for breakfast. We check in, do what husbands and wives do, and make the necessary phone calls to make our next day successfull.
The next morning, we wake up at 6am, and I call the taxi service to make sure they are on their way. After getting forwarded to ANOTHER cab company, I order one of theirs just in case and tell them to get there 15 minutes earlier than I need. Good thing... because the first cab company couldn't make it, and the second cab company was late. Hooray for Wes' planning!
We make it to the airport on Sunday morning with plenty of time to spare. We go to the counter and begin our check-in procedure. Unfortunately, the woman behind the desk keeps holding my birth certificate up to the light... and looking worried. After a little while she calls a manager... she's worried my birth certificate won't cut it.
Keep in mind that I knew a passport would be better, but the 75 bucks that it required seemed a little steep to my broke ass. Additionally, I have been using this birth certificate for over 30 years. Hell, I got a PASSPORT with it in 1985... so why on EARTH would I think there was anything wrong with it? It seemed like an unnecessary precaution to get the passport... but at this point in time, I'm sure as hell wishing I had.
The manager comes over and holds the certificate up to the light as well. She's searching for a raised seal... which I'm certain my document had at some point in time, but it's 30-something, and probably hasn't been keeping itself in any better shape than I have! Didn't I used to have a raised seal on my belly or something! Why the hell does that matter!?!?
But it does. And after a little while they agree that there is no way I'm going to be allowed onto the plane in Charlotte with that paper. The manager thanks me for being so kind, and assures me that I have a lucky wife as she's seen far too many people throw temper tantrums when they find out the bad news. She is also kind enough to transfer our flight to Tuesday and allows us to take off out of Huntsville. BONUS!
So where did we spent the first two days of our honeymoon? Rainy, but lovely, southeast Huntsville! We drove home, laid around, and slept. We watched TV, went and did a double feature at the movie theater, and had meat and three at the Wild Rose Cafe downtown. For dinner, I grilled out a couple of fillets, baked some brie with pesto and pine nuts, roasted some red potatoes with fresh rosemary and sauteed up some onions, squash and zucchini. All-in-all, it was a win-win. The two extra days of sea and sun would have been nice, but we had a GREAT time doing what we were doing... sans beach and sans sun.
The only bad part was that my mom accidently spilled the beans where we were going when she came to pick us up at the airport... dammit....

The BED part of the bed and breakfast...

ahhh... late night jacuzzi tub... with ducky and all

The BREAKFAST part of the bed and breakfast... even if we did have to provide it ourselves
mmmmmm... wedding cakes

Here we are, visiting the lovely Madison County Health Department!
We had a lovely time, and everyone was super-duper nice!

Here we are getting three lunches at the Wild Rose Cafe...
We figured it was our honeymoon... we could get extra stuff!

Here we are, sampling some of the local cuisine!
The cornbread was DELICIOUS! And the chili cheese fries? mmmmmm!

The local theatre in Southeast Huntsville was delightful!
We saw a wonderful peformance of "American Dreamz" and "Lucky Number Sleven"!
More pictures of our honeymoon later! In Volume Three of Wedding Hysterics... JAMAICA!

Date: 2006-05-04 02:55 pm (UTC)i still keep a little cottage out in harvest, but that's more so for my parents to live in. they can't really handle the hustle and bustle of huntsville's thriving metropolis.
