Holy crap! In the Republican Debate, McCain wasn't able to answer quickly when asked directly if he believed in evolution. And when the entire panel was asked who DIDN'T believe in evolution, three people raised their hands! I can't stop laughing!

Hah!

Which leads me to say that they need to stop pretending to be Republicans and start up a Conservative party...

As do I!

It may not sound like it sometimes, but there is more to modern republicans that Idon't agree with than that I do agree with...particularly with social issues...

That leaves you with Ron Paul, I think.

He ran as a Libertarian for president once in 1988, but he's served 10 terms in Congress, both before and since, as a Republican.

It frightens me that people who don't believe in evolution are allowed to vote, let alone run for President.

Evolution! But but but there is a perfect linear progression from soup in the sea to humans!!!! IT HAS TO BE THE WORK OF GOD!!!!!

This is a statement used in ID and in some church seminars to discount evolution. Recently scientist have discovered that a collection of fossils from the deep sea are in fact a completely new and different form of life that failed. In fact this lifeform came before other multi-cellular organisms and probably lead to them being created as it died off. What's different? These things resembled "ferns" of today except for two notable things. One, they were entirely fractal and could grow to large sizes. No current lifeforms behave in this way. Two the existed in the deep sea, where there was no light. While they looked like plants they actually existed off the minerals and assorted single celled organisms which drifted down to them... in other words they were fractal plants who *ate*. Most importantly as the world warmed up some and organisms evolved higher in the water, the nutrients they lived on were completely removed from the "food chain". The first, large, multi-cellular life on Earth (that we know of) was a total failure.

Next time someone starts spouting that ID nonsense about a clear line from soup to us, bring this up. It's a lot more convincing than telling them about failed human like species and other mammals. Simply because this life was completely and totally unlike anything in existance today.

What's really sad is that represents a portion of our society.

not just a portion

half of this country believes that we were made, in our present day form, within the past 10,000 years. throw in the option of god having a hand in creating man in his present day form (i.e., god guided the process as opposed to creating it as is) and you get 70% of americans. scary scary stuff.

As long as doesn't turn into Jesse Jackson again when stumping in the South, like he and Clinton both did a few weeks back. Just speak, dude, and don't pander to your constituents. Don't be afraid to...um...be white. :)
